Missions

We believe missions, whether in our own neighborhood or on the other side of the world, is what the Body of Christ is called to focus on. It can be intimidating trying to share your faith for the first time, so we have designed a tiered Missions Program at MVF.

We recommend that everyone start by serving at least once at Open Door Fellowship - our partnership with a church in downtown Denver (it’s addicting, though… no one can serve just once!) The first Sunday of each month we serve a meal to some of Denver’s poor and homeless after they attend a church service at ODF. We strive to serve a restaurant-quality meal and make each person feel valued and loved. In the colder months, we have coat drives and set up a “department store” so that as they leave, they can go through the items and take whatever they might need.

The second step in our missions program is taking an urban missions trip somewhere in the US or traveling across the border to Mexico. These trips are generally offered to the youth on a yearly basis, and adults are needed as sponsors. We have been to the City of Angels Orphanage in Tijuana twice, and to the inner city of Los Angeles several times. These trips are life-changing as you come to realize that these folks aren’t so different from you… they need Jesus too… and they need our help and love.

Finally, for those who are able, we highly recommend taking an international trip. We have taken a group to the Philippines to visit and work in several Christian schools and have been to Guayaramerin, Bolivia to stay and work with Love In Action Ministries at the Andrea's Home of Hope and Joy for children who have been abandoned by their parents due to extreme poverty or death. We have also dug and built latrines in the rural mountains of Jamaica.

If you aren’t physically able to serve, financial support for those who do is always appreciated. Whether assisting through monetary donations for food at Open Door Fellowship, supporting one of our church missionaries, or supporting someone who is going on a trip… it takes your help to accomplish these great things... and the Great Commission.

Love In Action

Love in Action International Ministries (LIAIM) has a desire to establish orphanages throughout Latin America.  Through personal ties in our church body, MVF is involved with Andrea's Home of Hope and Joy in Guyaramerin, Bolivia. LIAIM invites churches to partner with them in the development of each location through short term mission trips, which involve construction projects on the orphanage, dairy farm, and dairy processing plant all while fostering relationships with the children and house parents. LIAIM endeavors to display the love and power of Christ as each home is built and filled.

MVF helps to support LIAIM's international work.

Open Door Fellowship

Open Door Fellowship (ODF) serves the poor, oppressed, and disregarded in the heart of Denver as a church and partner with other non-profit ministries. ODF has been meeting the spiritual and physical needs of many in their community through a multitude of ministries; we have the pleasure of being involved monthly with one- called The Table.

The Table is a meal that is prepared and served to the homeless who attend their Sunday evening service, including women from the Women's Homeless Initiative. It is a humbling opportunity to serve and foster relationships by listening to their stories and just loving on them.

International Experience

International Experience encourages families to host foreign exchange students as a way to learn about other cultures, languages and customs. Hosting a student is a form of being a missionary from home. Hosts have the opportunity to display the love of Christ through making their home and lives available while fostering relationships with their student. Its amazing to think about what God can do through these students as they return home. MVF has multiple families hosting students throughout the year.
